Hey friend — before we dive in, I just want to say thanks for being here. I’ve been under the weather lately and soaking up summer break with my daughter, so this post about how to create your own prayer wall is going live with just the essentials for now.
I’ll be updating it soon with photos of my own prayer wall and a video walk-through to help you get started — but in the meantime, I pray what’s here encourages you to carve out a sacred space in your home and heart.
Grace over perfection, always. 💗
—Sarah
For most of my life, I never had a space just for prayer. I would pray lying in bed, folding laundry, or driving down the road. And while all of that still counts, I often felt like something was missing—like my prayers were scattered throughout my day but not rooted anywhere.
That changed when I watched the movie War Room. Something stirred in me. I wanted that kind of intentional, powerful space to meet with God—not just to talk, but to fight. I realized that prayer isn’t passive. It’s a form of spiritual warfare. And having a physical space set aside for that kind of prayer reminded me every day that God wants to meet with me.
In this post, I want to walk you through how to create your own prayer wall—no spare closet required—and share why this one simple step completely changed how I pray. This isn’t about perfection. It’s about building a habit of coming to the Lord with your heart wide open. And if you want a little help getting started, I have a printable resource that will walk you through it step by step.

What Is a Prayer Wall and Why Does It Matter?
A prayer wall is a visual space set aside to focus your heart, your prayers, and your spiritual attention. It’s a physical way to keep your prayer life front and center in the middle of a busy home. It can be as simple or creative as you want it to be, but it’s purpose is always the same: to draw you into daily connection with God.
Here’s why a prayer wall matters:
- It keeps your prayer requests, scripture, and spiritual battles visible.
- It invites you to pause, to speak, to listen.
- It helps you build a habit of turning to God in the middle of your day.
- It gives you a place to fight your spiritual battles with the Word of God.
- And it shows your family what it looks like to turn to Him.
- It reminds you that God is present, even in the middle of a chaotic season.
There is something powerful about seeing your prayers written out. Watching your wall grow and change with your faith journey becomes a testimony in itself.
You don’t need a quiet house or an elaborate closet setup. You just need a willing heart and a few materials. You can start small and build as you go.
What You’ll Need to Create Your Own Prayer Wall
Creating a prayer wall doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Use what you already have and build from there! You can go minimal with a few sticky notes on a mirror, or create an entire prayer nook with framed verses and cozy lighting.
Essentials:
- A space on a wall, door, mirror, or even your fridge
- Sticky notes, index cards, or scraps of paper
- Tape, washi tape, clothespins, thumbtacks, or a bulletin board
- Pens, markers, or highlighters
- Your Bible for scripture references
Optional but fun:
- Decorative elements like frames, garlands, or small baskets
- Photos of people you’re praying for
- Small pieces of fabric, flowers, or tags
- A small table or shelf to hold a Bible, journal, or candle
- A dry erase board or chalkboard for rotating scripture
The goal isn’t to make it Pinterest-perfect. The goal is to make it personal and powerful. Let it reflect your season of life, your needs, and your faith.
What to Put on Your Prayer Wall
This is where your prayer wall becomes your own. You don’t have to make it look like anyone else’s. Just focus on what draws you closer to God.
I organize mine using the P.R.A.Y. method:
- Praise: Reminders of who God is. Scriptures about His names (Jehovah Shalom, Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Rapha, etc.), or simply sticky notes of gratitude.
- Repent: A quiet space to confess, to lay down burdens, and ask for cleansing. Verses about repentance and sanctifications are helpful here.
- Ask: Your prayer requests—for family, finances, healing, direction, and protection. This can be a rotating section where you update often.
- Yield: Verses that help you surrender your plans and trust His timing. This might also include big decisions you’re waiting on or areas where you feel resistance.
You might also include:
- Scriptures you’re memorizing
- Encouraging words you’ve heard from God or others
- Breakthroughs and answered prayers (don’t forget to praise Him when things shift!)
- A monthly or weekly prayer focus
- Declarations and affirmations grounded in scripture
Some people love using color coding—one color for each section or type of prayer. Others like everything in black and white with the simplicity of handwritten notes. Again, let it reflect you.
Here are some examples I’ve found on Pinterest to help you create your own prayer wall:
How to Use Your Prayer Wall Daily
Once you create your own prayer wall, it can be used in whatever rhythm works for your day. This isn’t about adding one more thing to your to-do list—it’s about creating a sacred pause in your routine.
Ideas to get started:
- Start or end your day with a few quiet minutes reading scripture or laying hands on a specific card
- Rotate prayers and verses each week or month to keep things fresh
- Add to it as new prayer needs arise
- Keep a journal nearby if you want to reflect on what God reveals
- Use it during your quiet time, devotional, or morning routine
- Teach your kids how to use it as part of their bedtime or family prayer routine
Even if all you do is pause for one verse or one name, you’re training your heart to come to Him.
Over time, this space becomes more than a collection of notes. It becomes holy ground.
